Coating material for pharmaceutical manufacture
For units working under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and for export oriented plants supplying regulated markets.
Written by the Rglax Pharma technical team, who formulate and manufacture every grade named on this category at our WHO-GMP works in Tahliwal, Una (drug manufacturing licence NNZ/23/238). Reviewed 3 September 2026. Licences and certificates.

Why it matters
Pharmaceutical work carries the tightest requirements of the three industries we supply. Release profile has to be demonstrated rather than asserted, the coating has to survive stability at the zone you are testing to, and an export oriented unit will be asked for documentation that domestic supply never needs. The enteric and sustained release grades exist almost entirely for this segment.
Start from the release profile. An immediate release product takes a film coat, AQ-Z Wb, AQ-ZWt10, NaQ-Z1Wb, NaQ-Z1Wt10 or UZ1. A delayed release product takes one of five enteric grades on three polymer bases, methacrylic, phthalate and CAP, chosen by what the dossier names rather than by preference. A product that passes release but drifts on stability takes a moisture barrier grade, and a product built as a matrix takes SR100. The seal coats sit under any of them where the core has to be protected from the coating dispersion.
Running it
Come to us with the active, the strength and the dissolution specification you are working to. That is enough for us to name a grade, and it is usually not enough for a supplier who only knows the shade you want.

Grades in this category
Every grade is listed with what it is for, the process base it runs on and the actives it was formulated against, so the choice between two of them can be made here rather than on a sample.
Aqueous film coat, white or colour
Water base ready-mix film coat supplied white or in your agreed shade.
General purpose aqueous film coating for immediate release tablets. It is dispersed in purified water and applied as a white or coloured film coat, giving a smooth, glossy surface with well defined logo definition.

- White or colour, high gloss
Aqueous film coat, extra white
Water base extra white film coat for cores that show through a standard white.
Aqueous extra white film coat developed for tablets where the core colour bleeds through a conventional white film. Calcium and Azithromycin cores are the usual cases. It gives higher opacity at the same build-up.

- Calcium, Azithromycin
Non-aqueous film coat, white or colour
Solvent base ready-mix film coat for moisture sensitive cores.
Solvent base film coating for cores that cannot tolerate an aqueous process. It is supplied white or in your agreed shade, with the same finish characteristics as the aqueous grade at a lower bed temperature.

- Non-aqueous (solvent)
- Finish ·
- White or colour, high gloss
Non-aqueous film coat, extra white
Solvent base extra white film coat for high opacity cover on sensitive cores.
Non-aqueous extra white film coat for moisture sensitive tablets that also need high opacity. It combines a solvent process with the covering power of the Wt10 series.

- Non-aqueous (solvent)
- Finish ·
- Extra white, high opacity
Universal film coat
One grade that runs on either an aqueous or a solvent process.
Universal film coat material for units that run mixed processes and want to hold a single grade in stores. It can be dispersed in water or in solvent, so the same code covers both product lines.

- Aqueous or non-aqueous

- White or colour
Enteric coat, methacrylic base, non-aqueous
Solvent base methacrylic enteric film for the Pantoprazole group.
Methacrylic base enteric coating applied from a non-aqueous system, formulated for the Pantoprazole group and other dissolution critical enteric tablets. It runs best over a transparent seal coat such as SC-401, which protects the acid labile core.
- Base ·
- Non-aqueous (solvent)
- Finish ·
- Enteric film, gastro resistant
- Formulated against ·
- Pantoprazole group
Enteric coat, methacrylic base, aqueous
Water base methacrylic enteric film for Diclofenac and Serratiopeptidase.
Methacrylic base enteric coating for an aqueous process, formulated for Diclofenac and Serratiopeptidase enteric tablets. It takes solvent handling out of the enteric stage wherever the core allows a water base process.
- Base ·
- Aqueous
- Finish ·
- Enteric film, gastro resistant
- Formulated against ·
- Diclofenac, Serratiopeptidase
Enteric coat, phthalate base
Phthalate base enteric system for Duloxetine enteric tablets.
Phthalate base enteric coating material formulated for Duloxetine enteric tablets, where the release profile is governed by the phthalate polymer rather than a methacrylic film.
- Base ·
- Non-aqueous (solvent)
- Finish ·
- Enteric film, gastro resistant
- Formulated against ·
- Duloxetine
Enteric coat, methacrylic second bond
Second bond methacrylic enteric system for Mesalamine.
Methacrylic base enteric coating on a second bond, formulated for Mesalamine enteric tablets where release has to be held until a defined point in the intestinal tract.
- Base ·
- Non-aqueous (solvent)
- Finish ·
- Enteric film, delayed release
- Formulated against ·
- Mesalamine
Enteric coat, CAP base
Cellulose acetate phthalate enteric film for Diclofenac and Serratiopeptidase.
CAP base enteric coating material for Diclofenac and Serratiopeptidase enteric tablets. It is the alternative polymer route to ECM-RP348 where a CAP film is specified.

- Enteric film, gastro resistant

- Diclofenac, Serratiopeptidase
Transparent seal coat and pre-coat
Clear sub-coat laid down before an enteric layer on acid labile cores.
Transparent layer seal coat or pre-coat applied ahead of an enteric coat, specified for the Pantoprazole group. It isolates the core from the enteric polymer and gives the functional layer a uniform surface to build on.
- Base ·
- Aqueous or non-aqueous
- Finish ·
- Transparent
- Formulated against ·
- Pantoprazole group
Colour or white seal coat
Pigmented sub-coat where the seal layer also has to cover the core.
Colour or white seal coat for cores that need covering as well as sealing, so the finishing film coat can be applied at a lower build-up.
- Base ·
- Aqueous or non-aqueous
- Finish ·
- White or colour
Moisture barrier for Amoxycillin and Clavulanate
Solvent base extra white barrier film for the most moisture sensitive combination.
Moisture barrier film coat on a solvent base, extra white, developed for Amoxycillin and Clavulanate potassium tablets. Water ingress during and after coating drives degradation in that combination, and this grade is built to hold it out.
- Base ·
- Non-aqueous (solvent)
- Finish ·
- Extra white, moisture barrier
- Formulated against ·
- Amoxycillin and Clavulanate potassium
Extra white film coat for plain Amoxycillin
Solvent base extra white film for plain Amoxycillin and dissolution critical tablets.
Solvent base extra white film coat for plain Amoxycillin tablets and other products where dissolution has to be protected while the core is covered to a high opacity.

Moisture barrier for multivitamin and ferrous tablets
Solvent base barrier film for hygroscopic multivitamin and iron formulations.
Solvent base moisture barrier film coat for Multivitamin and Ferrous group tablets. It protects the core from moisture pick-up and from the colour change that follows it on shelf.

Moisture barrier for special category tablets
Solvent base barrier film for products outside the standard range.

Sustained release material
Ready-mix blend for extended release solid dosage forms.
Sustained release material for controlled release drug delivery systems. It is supplied as a ready-mix so the release profile is reproducible batch to batch without in-house polymer blending.

Dissolution enhancer blend
Corrects disintegration time and dissolution where the core falls short.
Dissolution enhancer blend used as DT and dissolution material. It is added where a core formulation does not meet the specified disintegration time or dissolution profile and reformulating the core is not practical.
