Aqueous tablet coating material

Why it matters

Water based coating removes the solvent entirely. There is no recovery system to run, no flameproof area to maintain and no residual solvent limit to test against, which is why most new lines are specified aqueous from the outset. The trade is process time: water carries less into the pan per unit of spray, so a build-up that takes forty minutes on a solvent system takes longer on water.

Running it

Run these warmer and slower than a solvent equivalent. Bed temperature in the mid to high thirties and an inlet in the seventies is the usual starting point, and the published parameters on each grade page give the range it was developed on.
